Dedicated to the 74th Genocide against Yezidis in Iraq and Sinjar crisis
To whom it may concern
This statement is to urge all the human rights organizations, United Nations affiliates and government officials to react as quickly and effectively as possible to the humanitarian crisis in Sinjar where 400 thousand civilians from vulnerable Iraqi Minorities of Y...ezidis, Christians, and Shi’a have been displaced from their homes after ISIS took over the Sinjar region in Nineveh. More than half of Sinjar residents have taken refuge in the mountain, with no access to shelter or basic survival needs of food and water, in the past 24 hours, over a dozen children and adults have died due to intense heat and thirst. Moreover, many children have died during the 12+ hours of traveling on foot to Sinjar Mountain or Dohuk Province.
In the early hours of the conflict between the ISIS terrorist groups and local residents, at least several hundred residents have been killed and wounded, death toll increases dramatically every hour among the injured because of inaccessibility to emergency medical services. All medical services are halted in the region.
Report from the center of the Sinjar city indicates that massive massacres against Yezidis have taken place; ISIS gives Yezidis two choices; convert to Islam or be executed. Most are not even given this choice. Many are taken captive and raped or used as human shields.
More than 500 families have been taking captive to Aum Diban on the Syrian Iraqi border or to ISIS controlled areas in Syria and their fate is unknown.
The urgent need is to open a humanitarian channel to evacuate those who have been trapped in the mountains or their homes. If this situation continues, many thousands of people will die from heat intensity, hunger and thirst. In addition, ISIS terrorists are pursuing the fleeing refugees and will likely murder, rape, and capture thousands more.
This dire situation requires immediate action by all the involved parties; the Kurdish regional government, the Iraqi government, UNCHR, and all other humanitarian organizations.
